Still, I’ve played it for 140+ hours at the time of writing so can’t complain. I’ve beaten the levels I can with most combinations. I find the first couple of difficulty levels too easy and the next level up impossible so… I don’t really get much out of a run anymore. I like the pseudo-tower defence style gameplay. ![]() This should make it easier to jump back into a chapter and locate what you're looking for on the way to 100% game completion. ![]() In this remake, you can better track what you've found-and what you're still missing-in each chapter. The Last of Us has lots of collectibles, including Firefly pendants, comic books, and more. You'll still want to collect all of the game's collectibles, hear all of Ellie's jokes, and perform a number of gameplay-specific feats. There are no Trophies tied to the game's permadeath or speedrun modes, so you can ignore them and still earn the Platinum if you wish. Other than that, the list is as you'd expect it if you've played before, including the partition between the base game and the standalone Ellie-centric prequel chapter, Left Behind. This comes as part of an apparently concerted effort on Sony's part to remove such Trophies from its games to allow more players to strive for and achieve Platinum Trophies, the reward for completing a game's Trophy list. The Trophy list for The Last of Us Part I is slightly different than the original game, with the biggest difference being the absence of difficulty-related Trophies. Generally, I've found the difference between 4k and 1440p to be negligible, so I always end up going with the higher framerate, but this is something you'll want to tweak according to your preferences. Still, you get the guaranteed 4K resolution without upscaling. This plays the game in 4K at 40 frames per second, which is smoother than the game's original 30fps, but not quite as smooth as what's offered in performance mode. Fidelity: Favor resolution over framerate. This sticks to a steady 60 frames per second and allows the resolution to move between 4K and 1440p as on-screen action demands. Performance: Balanced resolution and framerate. It's up to you to choose which one is active, and you can switch between them at will. The Last of Us Part I includes two display modes for 4K TVs. Overall challenge difficulty - Very light, light, moderate, hard, survivor, and Grounded (available after completing the game once)Įach of these categories has six different options on its own continuum, meaning if you want enemies to go down fast but stealth to be much harder to execute, for example, you can tweak it to your preferred mix.In addition to the dozens of accessibility options, the game's difficulty can now be customized, much like the sequel, across a variety of categories. In total, there are more than 60 accessibility options that can be enabled if you so choose. Within each category, you'll find a wide range of options to change the way the game plays to suit your wants or needs, such as button presses versus holds, camera assistance, colorblind mode, HUD customization, motion blur, an ability to completely skip puzzle sections, an invisibility toggle, and ways to alter the AI behavior, such as preventing enemies from flanking you or making it so your allies can't be grabbed by enemies. You can read more about The Last of Us Part 1 accessibility options here. The full gamut of options is split into several categories: In many cases, these are new features that weren't there in the game's original release. Like The Last of Us Part II and many other first-party games, PlayStation has put an emphasis on including a bevy of accessibility features in The Last of Us Remake. Those playing in speedrun mode can compare their best times with friends and receive official tips from within the PS5's Card feature, accessed when pressing the PlayStation button while the game is in-progress. Speedrun mode is another new feature that will allow you to submit times for others to try and surpass. Note that this mode also disables manual saves, and quitting to the menu or closing the game will count as a death. If you play using permadeath, you can elect the game to revert back to either the very beginning, the beginning of an act (2-3 hours), or the beginning of a chapter (30-60 minutes). However, there's some flexibility in deciding how much progress you lose upon death. Permadeath mode is pretty much what it sounds like: If you die at any point in the roughly 12- to 15-hour story, the game resets. The Last of Us Part I includes two new optional and challenging modes for players who want to experience the game in new ways. Now Playing: The Last Of Us PS5 - Is It Worth It? Setting the filename to (which is the default setting for the processed files) gives your Raw files the normal auto-generated filenames that VueScan normally uses. You can disable the saving of regular (processed) files, too, since those won’t be useful. To get VueScan to save the Raw file, go to the Output tab and check the “Raw file” option. (VueScan’s Raw mode should not be confused with digital camera RAW files, which are completely different and wholly unrelated.) It supports saving of “Raw” files-and those files are actually just TIFF images that can be loaded into any image editor. Next, we have to make sure VueScan doesn’t do anything to the scanned image that we don’t want. Unfortunately, VueScan makes you guess at the adjustment and re-scan the preview until you get it right. I found it necessary to preview a frame and adjust the offset until it lines up properly. VueScan also doesn’t seem to be very good at finding the edges of the frames on a strip of color negative film, at least in “Image” mode. Of course, this means VueScan will no longer invert the negative or remove the orange mask, so I’ll be doing that myself later. Obviously we don’t want this, or any other behind-the-scenes adjustments, so the first thing to do is set VueScan’s “Media Type” to “Image,” same as we use for slide film. With negatives it’s much the same: choosing “Color negative” will make VueScan do terrible things to your pictures, based on “profiles” it has for various types of film. With this setting, VueScan adjusts your scan’s colors to “compensate” for the film’s characteristics, neatly defeating the purpose of scanning it in the first place. One thing I found scanning slides was that setting “Media” to “Slide film” in VueScan is never, ever what you want when scanning slide film. VueScan does a good job, but has one of the worst user interfaces I’ve ever used figuring it out is difficult and scanning with it takes a few times longer than it should, so it’s my hope that this will help others trying to do the same thing. I’m using a Nikon Coolscan 5000, with VueScan software to do the scanning. I make no claim that this is the best of all possible approaches, or that I won’t figure out something better later, but it seems to work. But one thing that is certain is that I want to start with as faithful a representation of the film image as possible. ![]() ![]() The thing about color negatives is that there is no reference for what the image is “supposed” to look like: not only is the film a negative, it’s got the orange mask. ![]() It was time to sit down and figure out a better method. Thus far my approach to scanning color negatives has been to play with it until it looks reasonable. The series was created by Toshiro Tsuchida and developed by G-Craft, a studio that was later absorbed by Square and existed within Square Enix as Product Development Division-6. The soundtrack, provided by a variety of Square talent (but mostly the heroes Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda) is fucking excellent. Front Mission Series: Gun Hazard (also known simply as Front Mission: Gun Hazard) is a side scrolling action role-playing game developed by Omiya Soft and published by Square in 1996 for the Super Famicom. Just to remind you that yes, you’re playing Front Mission, you’re given a wide assortment of equipment you can use to equip your mech however you see fit. Left to right: Albert, Brenda, Luven, Anita, Emil, Clark, Axel and Sakata. Some companions are best at fighting while others are meant. You may not have a whole army, but the game lets you have a companion fight alongside of you. It still carries everything we love about customizing your mech in Front Mission. Taking up the mythos of Front Mission and its customizable mechs called wanzers, the game plays similarly to Assault Suit Valken in which you shoot enemies in a 2D map with your walking tank. Before being a RPG, Gun Hazard is mostly a side-scroller. They were similar to a musket without the bell on. But before that, let's talk about the game. Despite the 2 in the title, this game is really nothing like the original Assault Suits. Gun Hazard switched genres to action/RPG. It sounds as if you are asking about harpoon guns and yes the handheld ones looked a lot like muskets. At the start your duty is to protect the President from a coup at the hands of a powerful general, but I’m sure that All Is Not What It Seems, as is usually the case. If Masaya saw Front Mission: Gun Hazard as a ripoff of Assault Suits Valken, well, this game, developed by TamTam (who did some other inconsequential Japanese games like Eithea) is them repaying Square the favor. ![]() A partial recording of a vulgar diatribe is present in the ROM. You walk around in your Wanzer and shoot things. Front Mission: Gun Hazard is a side-scrolling platformer/shooter spin-off of Front Mission, a series of tactical RPGs about robots. This is why I actually enjoy Gun Hazard.Īpparently the same team who did Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken did this game, and it’s pretty apparent from playing them both. ![]() And as a sidescrolling action game, it has nothing to do gameplay-wise (or story-wise, debatably) with the other Front Mission games.
